I have been hired for underwater main camera roles for major bluechip productions. This involved both experimental set ups as well as classic Red\Gates split dome set ups. My experience with gates housings came from a several years spent at Esprit Film and tv assisting the likes of Blue planet, Frozen Planet and Green Planet.
I have found my niche seems to be that I am often hired on topside shoots
which have elements of underwater within their sequences. These are often very awkward set ups such as remote rigs like polecams and quad pods. Set ups for splashzones including splash bag set ups. Or underslung underwater macro slider shots. A lot of shoots can not afford a full dive team so these remote and specialist set ups have become popular and also a great puzzle for me to solve for productions.
My favourite way to work underwater is to freedive with a smaller Nauticam set up, its the least invasive and quickest turnaround to get to the action.
